The Boom Crane consists of a gantry boom that can rotate and has two extensions. The boom is driven in and out by a peg drive for the first stage, a second stage further extends a telescopic boom located within the main gantry.

The boom is fitted with a 1 Te WLL auxiliary winch and several lift points arranged along the underside of the boom, each lift point rated for 7.5 Te WLL.

All gearboxes are fitted with failsafe brakes and hydraulic motors. Dynamic braking is achieved via a load control valves mounted directly onto the hydraulic motors. Static braking is via the failsafe brake unit fitted in between the hydraulic motor and the gearbox.

The hydraulic signal to the failsafe brake is achieved via a brake shuttle valve within the load control valve. The stern boom is controlled via a 4 slice 3 position, spring return to centre directional control valve. The valves are fitted with motor spools. Two slice controls the boom (peg and telescopic), drive in and out, one slice for the slewing and the other slice controls the auxiliary winch.
